1 v 1 Party typing duel · two players · one device

Typing Scorekeeper

A two-player typing race for your party, played on one device. On a laptop, each player types on their own half of the keyboard, so nobody grabs the other's keys. On a tablet or phone laid flat on the table, each player gets their own half of the screen, facing them. The score table below keeps a running total across every round.

  1. Type both names and pick how you're playing: shared keyboard or face-to-face on a touch screen.
  2. Sit one at each end. Keyboard: left player uses Q to B, right player uses Y to M. Touch: one each side of the screen.
  3. Press Start round. After 3, 2, 1, type your own words. First to finish gets 2 points, the cleaner typist gets 1.
Ready?
Press Start round (or Enter) when both players are ready.

Host's cheat sheet

Points each round: finishing first earns 2. Higher accuracy (fewer wrong keys) earns 1, and a tie in accuracy gives both players 1. If nobody finishes in 60 seconds, whoever got furthest takes the 2.

Wrong keys don't move you forward; they only lower your accuracy. You never press space: the next word starts by itself.

Shared keyboard: the left player's words use only left-hand letters (Q W E R T, A S D F G, Z X C V B) and the right player's use only Y U I O P, H J K L, N M. Most laptop keyboards handle two people pressing keys at once on opposite halves. The left side has more letters, so tap Swap sides between rounds to keep it fair.

Touch screen: lay the tablet or phone flat between the players. The top half is upside down so it faces the far player. Both get the same words on a full keyboard.

WPM counts five letters as one word, the usual typing-test rule.
